Welcome to WordLab, an innovative, easy to deliver, evidence-based approach to the teaching and learning of spelling. Teachers at all levels of the primary school find WordLab a straightforward and engaging way to teach spelling to their students. The programme includes helpful video tutorials.
Daily lessons follow a simple routine of word exploration, are only 20 minutes long and come fully prepared. WordLab has two foundational elements that support the rest of the programme: Our Words and The Charts.

Our Words: For each of the early years at school Our Words lists comprise 80 to 100 commonly used words (High Frequency or Essential Words). In later years the Our Words are words of high utility and commonly misspelled words. Teachers help students to find ingenious ways of learning them, and test regularly to monitor achievement.
The Charts: WordLab Charts support the teaching and learning of spelling patterns. In all, there are over 900 charts that contain all of the phonological, morphological and etymological sub-word features that need to be taught in primary school. These charts are explored through interactive lessons.
WordLab supports students to gain the knowledge of word meanings, to understand the effect of prefixes and suffixes, to discover spelling rules for themselves, and to learn about the history of our language. They learn to read words carefully, to absorb the spelling patterns, and to become knowledgeable spellers.
WordLab is a unique and exciting way to engage children’s interest in words and the benefits for students go beyond spelling to their reading and to their deeper understanding of vocabulary.
