Part Three (Y9)
30 one-hour lessons that have been scripted for easy use and contains films that are appealing to students of this age.
Recommended for use in Year 9.
The manual uses the following DVDs that are based upon books:
- October Sky
- City of Ember
- The Seeker
- Journey to the Centre of the Earth (optional extra)
New activities include: Music- Lyrics Unpack the Meaning, Taking Notes with AVAILLLability and Lip-Synch for Fluency.
It is important to note that for use in high school, AVAILLL is designed for the students who are well below the average. For that reason, the lessons in this manual are not any more challenging than those of preceding manuals. The students at this age and beyond who are struggling with literacy appreciate the novelty of AVAILLL and being able to learn while having fun.
This is an exciting and unique approach to teaching literacy skills. Students watch engaging films with the subtitle feature turned on. While they Read/Watch the films they engage in activities to develop vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and spelling.
AVAILLL has been continuously researched for six years by an independent body of researchers at the University of Canterbury with excellent results.
