Contains 40 one-hour lessons that have been scripted for easy use.
Recommended for use in Years Five and Six. Includes new and classic favourite films that are very appealing to this age group.
The manual uses the following DVDs that are based upon books:
- Dolphin Tale
- A Series of Unfortunate Events
- Stuart Little
- Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
- The NeverEnding Story (optional extra)
Includes the documentary, Africa.
The activities used in this manual combine the very best of AVAILLL plus exciting new activities such as The 48-Hour Film Festival, Vocabulary Powerplus, Compound and Found and Vocabulary Power.
Can be used over a period of two years as two 20-lesson units. AVAILLL is a daily programme that replaces the normal instructional reading programme for a class and teachers might find that they wish to use it for a shorter time i.e. 20 lessons rather than 40, with this age group.
The manual has been written so that lessons 19 and 20 as well as 39 and 40 contain concluding activities so it lends itself to being use in this way.
This manual is slightly less challenging than Part Five and contains several different activities.
This is an exciting and unique approach to teaching literacy skills. Students watch engaging films with the subtitle feature turned on. While they Read/Watch the films they engage in activities to develop vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and spelling.
AVAILLL has been continuously researched for six years by an independent body of researchers at the University of Canterbury with excellent results.
