AVAILLL is extremely careful to select films that are engaging for students and at the same time appropriate to be shown in a school setting. This means that obscene language, gratuitous violence, and sexual content are not acceptable.
There are two exceptions we have made and both are in the films for Year 10. One film has some violence but it is in the context of the story and is historical in nature. The other is the single use of an obscene word and again it is entirely within context.
Aside from the documentaries all the films chosen must be based upon a book. We are teaching literacy skills and leading students to reading well-written books.
The DVDs must be available in the Region code for Australasia (4) and available for purchase in Australasia.
Finally the DVDs must be subtitled in English. Nearly all are but occasionally we come across one that isn’t.
The content of the DVDs can be examined at sites such as imdb.com and commonsensemedia.org
